Stan Charles is best known for his 20-plus years as sports talk radio's Stan “The Fan.” He began as a radio intern in 1981 and parlayed his passion for sports, baseball in particular, to become a well-known and respected sports commentator.
Starting in the media at the relatively late age of 31, Stan's career path diverged from that of the typical radio personality. In 1989, he launched Tri-Stan Productions, Inc., a sports marketing company he successfully ran for 13 years. Tri-Stan purchased air time from local radio and television stations and produced the various programs Stan hosted. In addition to his on-air responsibilities, Stan also marketed these programs and sold the advertising inventory.
Stan was a sports columnist for five years from 1985-1990 for Baltimore City Paper. He also contributed to Outside Pitch and Sidelines, two local sports publications covering the Orioles and Ravens, respectively.
